Booking your perfect fit Photographer

Your photographs is going to be your treasured heirloom. You’ll immediately want to share them when your photographer gives them to you, and you’ll look back years from now, wistfully remembering your vows, that kiss, his face when he sees you for the first time.. The most important thing is to ensure that you choose YOUR perfect fit photographer to tell a better story for you. This is a super important decision and it’s crucial to find someone that will vibe with your vision and that can document all the soulful in-between moments for you. Another factor to consider is that you need to be able to trust your photographer’s process and feel super comfortable because they will have a front row seat to all your private moments and basically your wing-person for your entire wedding day.

So, here are some handy tips as to how you can find YOUR perfect fit photographer and not just another person with a camera but someone that will serve you hear-fully.

1. Firstly, book your dream venue

Yes, you heart me! Get that dream joint locked down! And then, book your photographer. Ideally, you want to do this at least 9 months in advance, alternatively, 12 months, if your dream photographer is in high demand.

2. Ask the tribe.

There is nothing wrong with soliciting recommendations from your married friends! Also, be sure to ask your venue, who they would recommend!

3. You can Pin that!

Do your homework. It’s super important to make sure that you know what you like because this will deffos factor into your decision when it comes to YOUR perfect fit photographer. So hop onto Pinterest and get a feel for what you like and then go to the socials and see if you can find a photographer with a similar style.

4. Can we go for coffee?

Before you commit to the photographer’s services be sure to ask to view a full gallery from a recent wedding, not just a “best of” reel from different weddings and elopements. This is a more accurate way to establish whether or not you are obsessed with the photographer’s work. Handy tip: Ask if the photographer has shot at your venue and if so, request to see those photos.

5. How much is it?

Some photographers include everything including albums, prints, and high-resolution images, others have a flat or hourly rate, then charge you add-on services in respect of additional things like, extra coverage or albums. Many photographers offer a price list / or guide that details several different investments at various price points. Make sure that you understand what’s included. Ask how long the photographer will spend with you (seven to nine hours is ideal) and whether there will be a second shooter, as you’ll get waaay more detail shots (sneaky, I knoooow!)

Yes, another handy tip: be sure to ask when you can expect delivery, from your sneak preview gallery (some photographers can give you a handful within a few days – I love you to have some the following morning so that I know you are posting the good stuff when you announce your wedding to your FB / IG fam) to prints (usually up to three months) to your album (up to a year).

6. Be absolutely obsessed!

Once you’ve had a moment to take it all in and narrowed down the options, it’s time to make your decision. Remember that you’re literally going to be spending your most important day with this person by your side, so make sure you feel completely comfortable with the photographer. Do you and your fiancé genuinely like this person? Do you feel like the three of you are seriously vibing because then, book YOUR PERFECT PHOTOGRAPHER, right now!!

 Booking a session with your photographer is a great opportunity to get to know each other and to feel comfortable having your photo taken, especially if you or your groom feel a little camera-shy (don’t worry, I have a pocket full of secrets to help you shake that off – just slipping this in here – LOL!) It is also an amazing way to have beautiful portraits to display on your wedding day!
